The right model and you'd get either yoga fold type setup or detachable keyboard meaning they could use around the house. Limited info but I would consider a chrome OS laptop over a pi for this maybe. Eg if they have an iPhone I bet Mac / iPad would be a doddle. Where possible chose an OS close to what they know.
